2006 Consumer Electronics Show

Las Vegas, NV

Wed 1/4/2006

This is mecca for all electronics fans. Whether it is HDTV, home audio, computers, MP3 players, or robotic vacuum cleaners, this is where all the major players introduce and display the latest and greatest. About 150,000 visitors come from all over the world to descend upon Las Vegas. It makes it pretty darn crowded, and downright difficult to navigate the streets *and* show floor while being elbow-to-elbow with other attendees. Despite the crowds, long cab lines, bus lines, and waiting for the start of various presentations, I have been coming back each year to witness the coolest gear and buzz in person. In the end, it is still a fun thing to do.

There are tons of websites which provide comprehensive coverage for this event, so I highly recommend:

I'm just going to post some of the neat things I run across, along with some oddities. In past shows, I've run across Leo Laporte (of TechTV fame), Gene Simmons, Deborah Gibson, and other various celebrities either walking the show floor or hawking various goods for vendors. I miseed Jackie Chan last year, when he was on the show floor demonstrating a Japanese video game maker.
